Virginia’s journey in business has been far from easy, and her dogged determination to empower others in their health combined with her awe-inspiring resilience has helped the business to navigate incredibly testing times such as the Covid-19 pandemic and the current cost of living crisis and economic instability.
How Get Started and Grow Helped
Acknowledging that the first few years in business can be tough, and particularly in the economic conditions of the past few years, Staffordshire County Council provides various funded support programmes which Virginia has been able to tap into to help continue to weather and grow through testing times, including the Get Started & Grow Scheme for marketing and social media support.
Kathryn from The NextGen spent the day with Virginia and her partner Martin at their tranquil base in Stafford. With so many opportunities within their market, it was difficult to narrow down where best to start with their marketing. The workshop saw them conduct a very thorough analysis of all of the opportunities available with different target market segments and prioritise them accordingly to enable a simple plan to be built.
Lived experience is something Virginia has in common with many of her clients, and it was decided that storytelling was going to be the most powerful tool that they could use to educate the market. Leveraging the power of PR and working with aligned media outlets will help spread the word far beyond their current social media audience and list of contacts. Professional SEO tool AhRefs was utilised to review where there was unmet demand for information on relevant topics, helping to guide the duo on the best places to begin with content development.
Virginia said of the marketing workshop, “I found it extremely helpful to go through our marketing strategy with Kathryn. It was particularly helpful to understand the profiling of the target market and weigh up which would be the highest priority audience for us to interact with.”
Kathryn further explained, “Target market needs analysis is one of the most underutilised but simple and effective tools that many small business owners bypass. It helps identify priority audiences, guide marketing messaging, and define marketing tactics. I would recommend that all small business owners do this exercise, regardless of how long they have been in business, sometimes coming back at a later date with more information offers an opportunity to reflect and adapt and become even more effective.”
Business owners can download the Target Market Needs Analysis template to conduct this exercise in their own time for free here.
